exploring the metaphysical + occult + unknown through purva ashadha nakshatra

Zhang Ahuel for Vogue Singapore, June 2022

purva ashadha

I’ll be primarily exploring personal observations and connections made regarding the metaphysical + occult manifestations of Purva Ashadha nakshatra through pop-culture and the lives of purva ashadha natives.

Please, note that I am not a Vedic astrologer. I’m just a curious purva ashadha sun native. I’m deeply grateful for these revelatory observations.🙏🏾✨

The 3 nakshatras that form the rashi of sidereal sagittarius in Vedic astrology are:

  • mula (0º00’ – 13º20’)
  • purva ashadha (13º20’ – 26º40’)
  • uttara ashadha (26º40’ – 10º00’)

Purva ashadha nakshatra encompasses sidereal sagittarius from 13º20’ to 26º40’ degrees. The rashi (sign) of sagittarius is ruled by Brihaspati (jupiter); the vimshottari lord of this purva ashadha being Shukracharya (venus). The shakti (power) of purva ashadha is varchagrahan shakti the power to invigorate, energize.

Sagittarius begins the transpersonal cosmic stage of the zodiac. In Vedic astrology, there are 2.5 nakshatras per zodiac sign. Purva ashadha is the second nakshatra of sidereal sagittarius. The preceding nakshatra Mula (see my past post), is where Maa Kali liberates one from the false ego, state of ignorance or illusion of separation between human + Divine.

“The unknown is where all outcomes are possible; enter it with grace.”

In purva ashadha there is the ability to merge the personal identity with a collective, there is curiosity to connect with higher realms of pure consciousness, desire for expansive cosmic awareness.

Following the initiatory destruction of self-identity in mula nakshatra, at the transpersonal cosmic stage of sagittarius rashi, one is capable of perceiving Brahman —the unitive, absolute truth of the universe—and begins to question the unknown, the inner workings of our universe and how humans are interconnected with the cosmos.

Hunter Schafer (purva ashadha sun) for Mugler Angel Elixir campaign 2023

Purva ashadha nakshatra is ruled by the deity Apas, the cosmic waters personified, waters that purify and rejuvenate. To provide more depth to your understanding of the deity Apas, and purva ashadha, I will be exploring common themes in the lives + creations of various purva ashadha natives.

In Vedic astrology, the nakshatras are ruled by deities NOT planets. Although the influence of the planets ruling the nakshatra are considered, primary consideration is of the nakshatra’s ruling deity.

Apas

Ariana Grande (purva ashadha lagna) God is a Woman music video

Unlike most deities Apas is referenced in a rather abstract nature throughout ancient text and somewhat formless. Apas or Apah the deity is considered a feminine personification of the primordial waters existing before the creation of the manifest world; deep, dark mysterious water; the dark matter or primordial waters of the egg or womb that the universe and everything manifest was birthed from.

“When there was neither non-existence nor existence; when there was neither death nor immortality; and, when there was no visible sign to distinguish between days and nights, there was water, the unfathomable depth of water; and there was nothing but water.”

“The Primeval Egg…the sky is an iron container, but it is also Nut’s womb and an egg. It had a recurrent association between opening and regeneration and creation,…or the primeval separation between earth and sky.”

Apah is similar to ether, the atmosphere, anything without a definite shape or volume, anything in a gaseous state.”

Vasu

Apas is considered one of the eight Vasus (demigods) that personify natural phenomena.

The Vasu, according to the Vishnu-Purana:

  1. Apa “water”
  2. Dhruva “the Pole-star”
  3. Soma “the Moon”
  4. Dhava or Dhara “stream”
  5. Anila “Wind”
  6. Anala or Pavaka “Fire”
  7. Pratyusha “the Dawn”
  8. Prabhasa “Light”

deities similar to Apas

Nutthe ancient Egyptian goddess of the sky, stars, and cosmos. Nut is daughter of Tefnut the goddess of moisture, dew, rain and Shu the god of air, wind, atmosphere. The cosmic pairing of water and air.

Varuna (Apas is sometimes considered a consort of Varuna) – Hindu god associated with sky, oceans and water. He is ruler of the sky realm, upholder of cosmic and moral law. Varuna represents the magical and speculative aspects—the relationship between gods and human beings. [Britannica]

OceanusGreek god who rules the seas and oceans of the earth and father of stream spirits and ocean nymphs. In Greek mythology Oceanus is the primordial river that encircled the earth.

Yemayathe orisha of the Ogun River in Yoruba religious traditions; the Great Mother of all Orishas; water spirit of rivers and oceans. Yemoja is often depicted as a mermaid in modern times.

purva ashadha

Jupiter creates an interest in the great beyond, Divine wisdom, spirituality. These sagittarius natives will make great effort in their scholarship. Along with the influence of venus, many purva ashadha natives possess psychic and mediumship abilities, keen discernment of the unseen, and interest in occultism and psychology.

Purva ashadha natives are capable of easily accessing the akashic sea, cosmic consciousness, etheric realms: music/sound, astral travel, interaction and perception of non-physical and interdimensional beings. They are often very intrigued by outer space, and use astrology to illustrate our interconnectedness with the universe.

Both jupiter and venus are benefic planets that create great potential for intelligence. Many purva ashadha natives are multi-talented and will combine multiple areas of interest into their work, or they are published authors who write about their specialized fields of knowledge.

Jupiter (guru of gods) spirituality; heavenly pursuits; benefit of collective; goals of spreading universal truth and wisdom.

Venus (guru of demons) occult; material pursuits; benefit of personal; goals of status and wealth; spreading one’s personal beliefs and values.

metaphysics + purva ashadha

Being ruled by the deity Apas, as well as navagraha Brihaspati (jupiter), purva ashadha natives have the ability to make discoveries related to the akashic sea (or akashic records).

The akashic records stores ‘memories’ and details of everything that has ever transpired throughout the multiverse. Akasha means astral light that is only accessible to select individuals or those who receive occult training. Akasha allegedly transmits the waves of human willpower, thought, feeling, and imagination and is a reservoir of occult power, an ocean of unconsciousness to which all are linked, making prophecy and clairvoyance possible.” [Britannica]

Precognition, ESP, claircognizance (psychic downloads) are facilitated by akasha and purva ashadha’s watery nature.

clairvoyance

Solace (2016) film

US release date: mula sun + purva ashadha mercury

protagonist + antagonist:

  • Anthony Hopkins (purva ashadha sun)
  • Colin Ferrell (purva ashadha lagna)

In Solace, Dr. Clancy (played by Anthony Hopkins) is connected to a pervading field of consciousness (akasha) that not only allows him to receive flashes of psychic insight, but also see memories of past events and possible future events.

I was mind blown by how accurately this film depicts the way I personally experience precognition in everyday situations and obtain intuitive insight. Like me, Anthony Hopkins has first house mula mercury and purva ashadha sun.

Nostradamus

Nostradamus (purva ashadha sun and mercury) the sixteenth century astrologer, seer, physician and author most famous for his book of prophecies. Nostradamus’ book, Les Prophéties (1555), made predictions about future events spanning over 300 years

“The predictions do not follow chronological coherence and were written combining French, Greek, Latin and Occitan. It is believed that it contains anagrams, mythological and astrological references, in a subjective language that makes comprehension difficult.”

The incomprehensibility of the book is fitting of venus’ influence to hide, gatekeep, retain exclusivity of the occult.

supernatural communication

Purva ashadha nakshatra urges natives to appreciate our interconnectedness with each other, other forms of life, and the cosmos + heavens. Which seems to extend into communication with things beyond us (jupiter) and hidden things (venus).

In 1886, the Ouija Board, a device that creates a portal for communication and possession by supernatural entities was created by a purva ashadha mercury native, Elijah Bond, an American lawyer and inventor.

telepathy + collective memory

a digital collage created by me

morphic resonance

Rupert Sheldrake (purva ashadha moon) is a parapsychologist, biochemist, and author who proposed the theory of Morphic Resonance.

Morphic Resonance – “memory is inherent in nature and “natural systems”… inherit collective memory from all previous things of their kind.” Morphic resonance also allows for telepathic communication between organisms. This would mean that within the same species (human) we share access to a collective memory of humanity’s past and can telepathically communicate with like species.

“He recounts his Indian colleagues saying, “There’s nothing new in this, it was all known millennia ago to the ancient rishis.” Sheldrake thus characterizes morphic resonance as a convergence between Western and Eastern thought, yet found by himself first in Western philosophy.”

Sheldrake acknowledges that there are similarities between his concept of morphic resonance and Hinduism’s akashic records. He also notes similarities between morphic resonance and Carl Jung’s collective unconscious. Carl Jung a bharani moon native, also a venus vimshottari dasha ruled nakshatra.

Rupert Sheldrake further explains Morphic Resonance

astrology

Purva ashadha astrologers seem to have a proclivity for reimagining astrology by combining other areas of interest or expounding on new theories:

Reinhold Ebertin (purva ashadha moon) cosmobiologist + astrologer

Charles Emerson (purva ashadha moon) uranian astrology

Dr. Percy Seymour (purva ashadha sun) astrophysicist + astrologer

Walden Welch (purva ashadha sun) astrologer + psychic

the internet is undersea

Most people assume that the internet is etheric in form existing as some unseen cloud in the air. However the internet and most of our communication networks are possible because of undersea cables:

“These lines are laid on the very bottom of the ocean floor. They’re about as thick as a garden hose and carry the world’s internet, phone calls and even TV transmissions between continents at the speed of light.” [source]

Our undersea networks that carry information at the speed of light are like a physical manifestation of the akashic sea.

demonology + purva ashadha

Christina Ricci (purva ashadha moon) in Doja Cat’s ‘Demons’ music video (2023)

My original inspiration for this research was to better understand purva ashadha’s connection to demons and the occult. Being that the waters of purva ashadha are associated with purification and its vimshottari lord is venus (guru of the demons), I was curious if this nakshatra relates to exorcisms.

In my research, there seems to be a commonality of mula (the preceding nakshatra) and uttara ashadha (the following nakshatra) also having influence on involvement with metaphysics and the occult. Demonology and exorcisms are extremely complex and will have major connections to several nakshatras and planetary influences.

And so, it is noted that my findings suggest a combination of: solar, lunar/nodal, jupitarian, venusian and mercurial influence is prominent amongst priests, exorcists and supernatural experts. Uttara Ashadha, Krittika, Uttara Phalguni (virgo), Magha all being very prominent. Additionally cancer or moon dasha nakshatras.

In real-life, exorcisms are usually performed by ordained priests. I looked at charts of ordained Catholic priests who have performed a substantial amount exorcisms. I noticed Pisces placements were more common than Sagittarius. Venus exalts in Pisces.

The Exorcist (1973) film

The Exorcist original film (1973) released on a day with mula sun, mercury, rahu the preceding nakshatra to purva ashadha.

  • directed by William Friedkin (purva ashadha rahu)
  • screenplay written by William Blatty (purva ashadha sun, mercury)
  • actress Linda Blair (purva ashadha mercury)

The Exorcist (1971) novel

  • written by William Blatty (purva ashadha sun, mercury)

The film was inspired by Blatty’s novel The Exorcist (1971). The novel was inspired by several real people + events:

Gerald Lancaster Harding (purva ashadha jupiter + saturn; mula venus)

  • Harding was a British archaeologist who William Blatty met in Beirut while there, Harding excavated caves where Deep Sea Scrolls were found. Harding inspired the character Father Merrin in the novel.

Rev. Raymond J. Bishop (purva ashadha venus; mula mercury, uttara ashadha sun)

  • In 1949, Father Bishop performed an exorcism for a boy referred to as Robbie Mannheim, who was possessed after playing with an Ouija Board. This case is said to have been of inspiration for the novel as well.

Ed Warren

Ed Warren (purva ashadha ketu) was a self-taught demonologist + paranormal investigator. Paranormal cases investigated by Ed and his wife Lorraine, were the inspiration for The Conjuring Universe blockbuster movies. My favorite horror movies. Ed is portrayed onscreen by Patrick Wilson (purva ashadha rahu).

Jacques Albin Simon Collin de Plancy

Jacques Collin de Plancy (purva ashadha mercury) was a 19th century french occultist, demonologist, and author. He is best known for his book, Dictionnaire Infernal (1818) which describes demons and their hierarchy. His work later inspired occultist Aleister Crowley.

Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers

Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (purva ashadha sun) co-founder of the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn. Aleister Crowley along with Mathers, published The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King, a grimoire on demonology.

secret societies + unfamiliar territory

In Claire Nakti’s research on ‘the most creative + artistic nakshatras | part 2’, she mentions Hollywood‘s entertainment industry being established on a purva ashadha moon day. It’s unclear what date she used. However purva ashadha would be very fitting of Hollywood’s entertainment industry having a reputation for being almost like a secret society that requires one to sell their soul to the devil, sacrifice someone, or become entangled with the occult to achieve fame.

Hollywood is very secretive and known to be full of strange cults. Scientology has recruited many major Hollywood stars. As well as, many celebrities being connected to Hollywood’s Kabbalah Centre. Becoming a megastar is almost like being entrapped by the ‘cult of celebrity‘. Purva ashadha nakshatra is also associated with giving natives worldwide fame.

Many celebrities and entertainers will have prominent venusian planetary influence in their chart being that venus is ruler of the arts. Therefore entertainers often subconsciously gravitate to occult symbolism, themes of venus, may be more open to occultism. The extent to which a celebrity is consciously involved in occultism is debatable. But it’s not coincidental that people connect Hollywood with occultism and being ‘demonic‘.

cult leaders

Gwen Shamblin

Gwen Shamblin (purva ashadha moon and venus) author of The Weigh Down Diet book and Christian weight loss program. She also founded the Remnant Fellowship a Christian church cult. She considered herself to be something like a prophet spreading the messages God gave her. With the influence of jupiter, purva ashadha natives can suffer from an overinflated ego and wearing cartoonishly big hairstyles.

Many of the Remnant Fellowship church executives were Shamblin’s children and their spouses. The church cult attracts members seeking to lose weight, then psychologically binds them to the community by exploiting their Christian faith and desire for community. In 2021 Shamblin, died in a plane crash reportedly headed to a Trump rally.

Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler (purva ashadha moon, jupiter, ketu) was founder of the German Nazi Party a ‘race-cult religion‘. It is rumored that during World War II Hitler had involvement with the occult and extraterrestrials. [Nazi UFOs]

purva ashadha in pop-culture

I noticed tv series + films starring and created by purva ashadha natives have common themes of being in an unfamiliar place, trapped by wealth, status or family values, mentally lost in the confusion of an existential crisis, connections to a secret society or group involved with the occult. Many of these themes are associated with Venus the planet of: wealth, luxury, values, social status, the occult, and exclusivity.

Shukracharya (Venus), the vimshottari lord of purva ashadha is discerning, rejecting, exclusive in nature. Secret societies, cults, communities are all formed on a basis of shared values (venus).

Apas, referenced as ancient water goddesses that rule purva ashadha, bring rejuvenation and purification. By purification of the mind, the personal ego and identity is washed away. The cleansing waters of Apas psychologically binds one to a community or family.

The term brainwashing is quite literal in association with purva ashadha. Water representing the mind: is like a river merging with the ocean, the individual mind becomes immerged in the ideals, values, or goals of a collective. One’s mind lacks boundaries to the manipulation of others, making it difficult for the individual to trust their own thoughts and discern reality.

The Third Day (2020) tv series

  • actor Jude Law (purva ashadha sun)

Grieving the death of his son, Sam (Jude Law) finds himself losing his mind and trapped on an isolated island with mysterious esoteric practices. The island cult is preparing for their “Esus and the Sea” festival. The residents of Osea Island worship an ancient Celtic war god, Esus, along with other Celtic gods. Purva ashadha and uttara ashadha are considered ‘war’ nakshatras.

The Bible states that God created the ocean on the third day of creation (Genesis 1:9):

God formed the ocean basins and the continental land masses: “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear” x

Rosemary’s Baby (1968) film

  • actress Mia Farrow (purva ashadha moon)

Sharp Objects (2018) tv series

  • actress Patricia Clarkson (purva ashadha sun, saturn)
  • actress Eliza Scanlen (purva ashadha sun)

Archive 81 (2022) tv series

  • series premiere date (purva ashadha venus)

Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021) tv series

  • created by Nick Antosca (purva ashadha mercury)

Yellowjackets (2021-) tv series

  • series premiere date (purva ashadha moon)

American Horror Story: Delicate (2023) tv series

  • season showrunner Hailey Feiffer (purva ashadha venus and jupiter) Many have commented that this season is a ripoff of Rosemary’s Baby.

The Starling Girl (2023) film

  • actress Eliza Scanlen (purva ashadha sun)

Cuckoo (2024) film

  • actress Hunter Schafer (purva ashadha sun)

Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci (purva ashadha moon) is an American actress best known for roles that depict purva ashadha themes.

The Addams Family (1991) film

  • The Addams Family was originally created by Charles Addams (purva ashadha sun)
  • The Addams family is often depicted living in relative isolation or dissonance to society, they follow unusual traditions and are ‘old money’ wealthy, Wednesday Addams (played by Christina Ricci in 1991 film).

Distorted (2018) film

  • In a lesser known movie, Christina Ricci plays, Lauren, a woman who moves into a luxury apartment complex that is seemingly using technology to surveil and subliminally brainwash residents.

Yellowjackets (2021 – ) tv series

  • The actions of Misty (played by Christina Ricci in the adult timeline) causes a group of teens to become stranded in the wilderness after their plane crashes. The survivors form a group forever bonded by their secrets of what happened in the wilderness. There is a demonic entity that the girls worship in the series.

Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola (purva ashadha moon) a renowned American film director, screenwriter, producer and actress. Coppola is part of a Hollywood dynasty family. Her father, Francis Ford Coppola, is also a well-respected film director. They have many other notable relatives in the film industry–The Coppola Family Tree

Sofia Coppola explores purva ashadha in her cult-classic films through reoccurring themes of isolation, characters feeling trapped by their wealth, royal status, family values, living in hotels or palaces, existential crisis, the opulence of wealth and status. All connecting to themes of the planetary influences of jupiter and venus

films directed + written by Sofia Coppola:

The Virgin Suicides (1999) film – the story of a group of teenage sisters trapped in a house by their overprotective Catholic parents.

Lost in Translation (2003) film – depicts a washed up American actor experiencing a midlife crisis and loneliness while in Japan.

Marie Antoinette (2006) film – the film depicts an experience of isolation and frustration with belonging to the royal court. Marie Antoinette seemingly being trapped in the Palace of Versailles

Somewhere (2010) film – depicts an actor who is “stuck in an existential crisis” while retreating from the world by temporarily living at the luxury hotel, Chateau Marmont, with his daughter who later joins him.

Priscilla (2023) film – a biographical film on Priscilla Presley’s life. Priscilla Presley (purva ashadha ketu) was married to Elvis Presley (purva ashadha sun), “The King of Rock and Roll”.

Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola (purva ashadha lagna) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter of cult-classic Hollywood films. Most notably The Godfather film series. He also produces many films with his daughter Sofia Coppola.

The Godfather film series depicts an Italian-American crime family. The organized crime and allegiance of mafias operates similar to that of a secret society or royal family.

terra incognita

definition: unknown or unexplored territory

Purva ashadha being ruled by Apas, the personification of the cosmic waters, these natives often have a drive for exploration of something less tangible, cosmic exploration, deep sea exploration, contemplating the unknown and unfamiliar.

space exploration

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) film

  • screenplay co-written by Sir Arthur C. Clarke (purva ashadha moon, mercury)

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) film, screenplay was co-written by Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick. The movie was inspired by Clarke’s sci-fi works, such as the short story, The Sentinel. The film is a canon of science-fiction space movies, with noticeable on-screen references still seen in modern films.

the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey

the monolith

I found this description, on wikipedia, of the monolith very interesting in how it share themes of purva ashadha: mention of both jupiter and venus, aquatic creatures, the desire of exclusivity and willingness to kill those who are seen as primitive:

“The TMA-2 Monolith had judged that it would be desirable to nurture the primitive Europans by preventing the eventual freezing of their moon, and to keep humanity separated from them

TMA-2 thus converted Jupiter into a new star (dubbed “Lucifer“, meaning “light-bringer” [venus is guru of the demons]) to warm Europa into more habitable conditions – at the cost of exterminating the Jovians, ocean-like creatures who swam through the upper atmosphere of Jupiter.

The Jovians were judged too primitive, as due to their environment they had no hope of ever developing to become an advanced civilization.” This sounds eerily similar to the ideology of Adolf Hitler (purva ashadha moon, jupiter, ketu).

Sir Arthur C. Clarke

“Sir Arthur C. Clarke’s science and science-fiction writings earned him the moniker “Prophet of the Space Age”.

In addition to being a prolific sci-fi author, Sir. Arthur C. Clarke (purva ashadha moon, mercury) was also a deep sea explorer, often investigating shipwrecks. Clarke discovered underwater ruins of the ancient original Koneswaram Temple in Trincomalee.

“Arthur C. Clarke – the distinguished writer whose giant leaps of imagination have presaged a number of the most important scientific developments of the last half-century – gets his best ideas under water. Either when he is relaxing in the bath or, best of all, diving under water.”

article: Arthur C. Clarke’s Pool of Knowledge

John Glenn

John Glenn (purva ashadha moon) an engineer, astronaut, and US senator. Glenn was the third American in space and first American to orbit the Earth

physics + cosmology

Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking (purva ashadha sun) theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. Hawking has made great contributions to our understanding of the universe, gravitational singularity, general relativity, black holes, and more.

A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes by Stephen Hawking.

Hawking wrote A Brief History of Time, without using overly technical language so that the average person can understand the basics of how the universe was created, astronomy, physics, etc.

Brihaspati (jupiter), guru of the gods, seeks to generously share with all. He wants to expand our understanding of the cosmos and spiritual wisdom.

Sir Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton (purva ashadha sun) was a polymath: mathematician, physicist, astronomer, alchemist, theologian, and author. Best known for his contribution to humanity’s understanding of gravity, the principles of light, and laws of motion. Scientist have referenced him as “the Supreme genius”.

Newton’s work on gravity and the laws of motion made it possible for humans to understand space travel and later become capable of leaving our planet. Newton also invented the reflecting telescope a predecessor to the Hubble Space Telescope.

Newton’s understanding of the principles of light likely relates to purva ashadha:

“Akasha means astral light that is only accessible to select individuals.”[Britannica] Light can be thought of as etheric and therefore relates to akasha, the domain of purva ashadha.

Brihaspati (jupiter) is described as the sage born from the first great light.

Vedanet.com

In looking at the charts of geniuses, I often notice lunar/nodal prominence. In Vedic astrology the moon represents the pure mind. Sir Isaac Newton had ardra moon and mula mercury, which both have the lunar nodes as vimshottari dasha lord (rahu/ketu). Stephen Hawking‘s purva ashadha sun is ruled by rohini jupiter (moon vimshottari lord) and he had shravana lagna (moon vimshottari lord).

This is just a tangent theory I have that: moon (soma) plays an overlooked role in intelligence, as intelligence requires one to be observational and open to receiving divine revelation; in a manner that is detached from the ego. Mercury also plays a role in the equation.

The navagraha Budha (mercury) in Vedic teachings is fathered by both Soma (moon) and Brihaspati (jupiter). Other examples of moon/nodal + jupiter planetary prominence: Albert Einstein had ardra lagna, and pisces mercury. Leonardo da Vinci moon conjunct jupiter and pisces mercury.

space is an ocean

Space is an ocean—and I’m not speaking metaphorically. Ocean defines both “the entire body of salt water that covers approximately 72% of earth’s surface,” and any ‘great expanse‘.”

Early civilizations believed that the ocean and the stars above were linked inextricably. In the age of exploration, the ocean represented the ultimate unknown whose guideposts were the heavens. Earlier in this century, science fiction writers—our prophets of the medium—referred to the cosmos as “ocean space,” whose conquest would inevitably be done by “space ships.” [source]

Greek Cosmogony

Oceanus in Greek Mythology

In the ancient Greek cosmogony the RIVER OKEANOS (Oceanus) was a great, fresh-water stream which encircled the flat disc of the earth. Okeanos also marked the outer boundary of the flat earth which it surrounded with a “nine-fold” stream. The sun, moon, and stars rose all from and set into its waters. [source]

Hindu Cosmology

Samudra Manthana

The Kshira Sagara is the site of the legend of the Samudra Manthana, the churning of the cosmic ocean. At the suggestion of Vishnu, the devas (gods) and asuras (demons) churned the primeval ocean in order to obtain amrita (soma), the elixir of immortality. To churn the ocean, they used the serpent-king, Vasuki as the churning rope.

This war relates to purva ashadha‘s rashi lord jupiter (guru of the devas) and vimshottari lord venus (guru of the demons). The nectar (soma) is said to not actually offer true immortality. Instead, by drinking it, the devas were able to attain a higher level of knowledge and power.[wikipedia]

As you have seen from examples of purva ashadha natives in this study, it is very common that they have understanding of advanced theoretical knowledge and their intelligence is applied to various fields of study.

Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egyptians believed the sky was a cosmic ocean. This ocean-sky was also the womb of Nut, in which the deceased would be reborn. [source]

purva ashadha | terra incognita

Ariana Grande (purva ashadha lagna) perfectly depicting Apas in God is a Woman music video

Through these examples of the lives and creations of purva ashadha natives, we see the influence of the deity Apas in purva ashadha natives’ drive to explore the unknown that which: exists above us (space), below us (sea), and in between us (communication, ether, existential contemplation, metaphysics, physics). Purva ashadha natives are natural explorers of the unknown and cosmic thinkers.

Another meaning for purva ashadha: to obtain a connection through being absorbed into it, as water is absorbed into the ocean. x

In the charts of these exceptional examples of purva ashadha natives, the prominence of moon and/or nodal (lunar nodes: rahu/ketu) influence seems to contribute to the native having a depth of wisdom in a purva ashadha related theme or subjects. Perhaps this is because of purva ashadha’s watery nature relating to the waters of the subconscious mind, soma, the moon.

Purva ashadha native’s ability to access the depth of wisdom stored within the cosmic waters of the universe imparts them with clairvoyance of events and wisdom throughout the span of time. Their wisdom is not limited by time and space. These natives have an innate understanding of how the universe works and curiosity to explore the unknown.

My hope is that through these examples you have gained a deeper understanding of the deity Apas that rules purva ashadha. As well as understanding why purva ashadha nakshatra relates to the cosmos, ether, outer space, water and deep sea. Purva ashadha natives seek to illustrate our interconnectedness to each other, as well as, our interconnectedness with the cosmos.
